These are kind of trickling out slowly but we are hard at work (sometimes)! Thinking of content is pretty time consuming. Should we just post these out here or use a more private medium? This would be the um, front entry page and Published/News page.

Outline of possible logo and the redubbed Communications Panel as it might appear with an invitation to collaborate. Working on more….
Also i’m not sure if this is relevant but i was reading up on social networks and read about Dunbar’s number. He says that a 150 person social network is about the limit for human groups. I am of the opinion that the social network and connections people can make on our site is what will keep people coming back. Constant casual communication will be vital for this.
Some Basics September 20, 2007

So Hepi and I are still working the mockup but heres some basic drawings i made of how I see it. I think that Ajax will play a huge role in how the site functions. So I think there would be 3 major panels in all areas of the site.
Top is the Host Newspaper section with their navigation, if its lateral horizontal, and some links to their top stories or related content to whatever shows up on our site, updated independently using ajax of course.
The content panel would display our content navigation, with 3 main viewing options, mapped (like this), old-fashion daily news style and portal (like so). There would also be some sort of discussion hub, published and incomplete story lists, a categorized content library for use with any story and probably some other stuff.
The Social Panel would then have an ajax chat client connected to whatever section you’re looking at in the content panel. This would propagate some sort of spontaneous social networking. It could also show the people who are in your section and what stories they are reading or working on and such. The panel would also be highly interactive, clicking on names would bring up their profile in the content panel which would show you their work and stuff. You should also be able to IM individual friends and stuff from there.
*I think that groups and their creation will be a huge part of the collaboration process. We should have a group chat type box in the social panel, and a sort of group homepage for long-term groups to work together on various projects and display previous works. People should be able to be in multiple collaboration teams as well as work independently or in temporary groups for particular projects. How people find each other and start up such teams is my main concern and I’m kind of stumped. Any ideas would be appreciated. I think the discussion or message board area would be a factor in getting to know people and the active chat would create a place where people could run into each other more often if their interested in the same subjects. Maybe not if theres a smaller audience for the website tho, although we could just expand the zones to include the whole site or something.
Any input/comments/revelations/expression of confusion/head nodding/acknowledgment is appreciated.
(oh and click for full images, they got cut off)
