Call to action: put us to work! October 16, 2007

One of my faculty friends who teaches advertising and marketing campaigns reminds me that great endings often involve good “calls to action.” One ending he remembers from a great student campaign was, “Now put us to work!”
With all due deference to music from later decades, I propose we end the presentation with this musical call to action:
video update October 15, 2007

first off, video 2 is done, but for some reason my ftp access to my student server has decided it doesn’t like me. I’ll upload it tomorrow when I’m in the labs at school.
Second, because of said ftp problems and other failed attempts, I still haven’t gotten the UNLV footage. Hepi and I have been troubleshooting all day and we think we’ve got it figured out. He’s currently uploading the file to phillips server space, where I’ll pull it later tonight.
I’ll be in the labs most of the day tomorrow editing, but for now, I’m off to work. I’ll be on our conference call, but won’t be able to stay on long.
New Zealand add to the script … October 13, 2007

May i suggest an addition to the script.
New Zealand, as Hepi noted earlier, has introduced an experiment in what is being termed “extreme Democracy” by opening its Police Act in a public Wiki for proposed revisions.
It’s pretty amazing, and worth noting as an example of how they are working to bring citizens into the process to create change (which, if memory serves, was your germ). So how about a screenshot from the New Zealand Wiki Web site and a few words in the script?
First half of video2 October 13, 2007

First half of incubator video is up here. It might take a sec to load, so be patient.
I’m waiting on screen shots in order to complete the second half, which will include the sample video we made that features student interviews about the parking situation.
I compressed it to a smaller flash video file so you all could see where it’s at, so the quality is obviously not what it will be in the actual presentation.

While working on the presentation it has become clear that we need a logo. It’d be great if we could have a chic logo that we keep consistent over the powerpoint, the videos, the mock screen shots…
I know Rob had doodled a pretty cool one with pen and paper. Have we gone any further than that? Rob, care to take it a step further? Or Brian, we’ve seen you’ve got some design skills. Or anyone else who loves bicycles and design.
Please let us or me know if you have or are capable of whipping something up
Ways to get interviews October 8, 2007

One of my friends suggested doing a search on YouTube under community, then put in your school name, so that you get a list of people who have posted video to that site. You could do the same with MySpace. I am sending out messages to people on YouTube right now, just wanted to let you know about this idea while I was thinking about it. Hope this helps.
Present group / tech group October 6, 2007

Tech group – how’s it going on screen shots, etc…? We’ll need some of those for the presentation. Specifically, we’re going to need some when we discuss how collaboration on Tandem works.
Also, the presentation group will need one of you to provide us with some technical details for the script. There’s a section late in the script tentatively labeled “ease of implementation” where we’ll talk about the technical aspects of the site. If one of you wanted to write up a summary on the presentblog of the key technological aspects that we should be sure to mention, that would be great.

Hey fellers,
I posted this awhile back in the old group but i think this is a great example of sort of previewing a future website that eol did.
Here is the link to the high quality video (still loads fast).
It’s also on youtube but the quality is less and it kind of loses some of its coolness without the sharp images so i chose not to embed. Check it out though, more so toward the end where it actually shows how the site works. It would be really cool if we could do something like this for our presentation.
Here it is anyways:

I forgot about this post at 43Folders a while back. ‘Tis all about presentations. Please look at the pictures first without reading to get a good grasp of how well it works.
