video update October 15, 2007

first off, video 2 is done, but for some reason my ftp access to my student server has decided it doesn’t like me. I’ll upload it tomorrow when I’m in the labs at school.
Second, because of said ftp problems and other failed attempts, I still haven’t gotten the UNLV footage. Hepi and I have been troubleshooting all day and we think we’ve got it figured out. He’s currently uploading the file to phillips server space, where I’ll pull it later tonight.
I’ll be in the labs most of the day tomorrow editing, but for now, I’m off to work. I’ll be on our conference call, but won’t be able to stay on long.

Hey you guys…I posted my thoughts on NewsVine vs. Tandem on the Google research doc under competition. It’s there for the using if ya need it. It’s a little bit longer than 3 sentences, but it’s pretty short;)

Flickring the News October 13, 2007

From a post I saved from last spring on Hop Studios blog. They proposed something called “Flickring the News,” which is different than Tandem, but philosophically aligned as the following shows:
… in the past few years, a group of social media sites have grown in popularity and influence under a sort of general label called Web 2.0 — you can see their proliferation in the little rows of icons, for example on this page.
YouTube, MySpace, Flickr, Blogger, Facebook, WordPress, Digg, Metafilter, Wikipedia and others share a common theme: they are all sites where users’ contributions to each other’s work add tremendous value and knowledge to the information on the site. (Well, maybe not in the case of YouTube’s comments, but it’s true for the rest of them.)
Some sentiments along that line are in your script, and might be emphasized … something about the collective being smarter than the onesies and twosies …
New Zealand add to the script … October 13, 2007

May i suggest an addition to the script.
New Zealand, as Hepi noted earlier, has introduced an experiment in what is being termed “extreme Democracy” by opening its Police Act in a public Wiki for proposed revisions.
It’s pretty amazing, and worth noting as an example of how they are working to bring citizens into the process to create change (which, if memory serves, was your germ). So how about a screenshot from the New Zealand Wiki Web site and a few words in the script?
